Dana Birnbaum has more than a decade of experience working with patients throughout Chicago’s North Shore and the greater Chicagoland area. She creates a warm and non-judgmental environment in which she supports individuals through feelings of uncertainty, role and career changes, and life transitions. In addition, Ms. Birnbaum has training and experience working with women suffering from Perinatal Mental Health issues.
As a Perinatal Mental Health Specialist, Ms. Birnbaum is passionate about supporting patients throughout their reproductive journey from trying to conceive to parenthood and beyond. She understands that everyone’s path to parenthood is different and may include loss, grief, shifts in relationships and feelings of anxiety. Ms. Birnbaum also recognizes how difficult and isolating this time can be and works collaboratively with her patients to help them feel confident, competent, and connected.
Ms. Birnbaum has extensive experience working with college-aged individuals. She utilizes a strengths-based and solution-focused approach to help her patients develop the coping skills necessary to navigate life’s challenges.
With nine years of experience working in a partial hospitalization program and intensive outpatient program, Ms. Birnbaum is skilled at crisis management and utilizing evidence-based approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention, and Dialectical Behavioral Theory. Ms. Birnbaum believes in meeting patients where they are and helps them live a life that is in line with their values. She works with adolescents and adults.
Ms. Birnbaum earned her Master’s degree from Loyola University Chicago. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and has a Perinatal Mental Health Certification.
Having grown up in Chicago’s North Shore suburbs, Ms. Birnbaum understands the pressures of our community. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, trying new restaurants and taking long walks.
