GROUP THERAPY

Come Talk with Us

Group therapy is often a safe haven that can be used by itself or integrated with individual therapy. It can help you feel supported as it allows you to hear other perspectives and learn new ideas and strategies. Knowing that there are others going through similar situations can provide relief, encouragement and support. Sessions are focused on unique needs, including developing skills, communication and relationships. Together we help you understand and practice new approaches and behaviors.

Lake Forest Wellness Group Therapy is led by our licensed, experienced therapists who use clinically proven methods to help you lead a more fulfilling life. Lake Forest Wellness offers 4-6 week group therapy sessions in our welcoming office and virtually through telehealth. Our groups include support for students transitioning from high school to college and from college to the workplace. We also offer groups for new parents as well as parents navigating parenting challenges.

What to expect at Lake Forest Wellness Group Therapy

We are here for all of your life’s journeys. Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about group therapy:

Where are the group sessions held?

Group sessions are either held in-person at our welcoming Lake Forest Wellness office, or virtually through telehealth. Details are listed alongside the start date for each program.

Who leads the group therapy sessions?

Group sessions are led by experienced, licensed Lake Forest Wellness therapists. The name of the therapist(s) leading the group is listed alongside the start date for each program.

How many participants are in each group?

Group therapy typically includes 6-8 participants. The therapist(s) leading the group will decide the optimal number of participants given the topic.

Are there a set number of sessions for each group?

Our group therapy programs generally run 4-6 sessions. The exact number of sessions are determined by the therapist(s) leading the group.

How long is each session?

Each session lasts approximately 60 minutes.

How frequently do the groups meet?

Our groups meet once per week.

Is the group open or closed?

Groups are closed, meaning that the same members continue throughout the program.

Is group therapy effective on its own, or must it be combined with individual therapy?

Group therapy can be effective on its own. However, many people find that combining it with individual therapy can be beneficial.

How is each group therapy session structured?

Our group therapy sessions are a combination of therapist led and group discussion.

How are session topics developed?

The therapist(s) leading each group outlines specific discussion topics, but tailors each session to the needs of the group.

How do you address individual privacy?

While confidentiality is a foundation of group therapy, no group can provide an absolute guarantee of privacy and confidentiality. Participants will be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement, and only first names are used in group sessions.

How much will I be expected to share about myself?

Participants are able to share as much or as little about themselves as they would like. A group offers the best results when people contribute, but it is an individual decision on what they choose to share and how much they would like to contribute.

What is the cost of group therapy?

Lake Forest Wellness charges $100 for each participant per session for group therapy. The full program is paid in full and (4-6 sessions) is charged upfront with your registration. The fees are non-refundable.

Is group therapy covered by insurance?

Lake Forest Wellness does not accept any insurance, but we encourage you to check with your insurer as you may have out-of-network benefits that offer some reimbursement. The CPT service code for group therapy is 90853 if you’d like to check the reimbursement rate from your insurer in advance. At the conclusion of the program, participants will receive a superbill to submit to your insurance carrier for potential reimbursement.
